On February 27, Frederick Elementary School (FES) continued its schoolwide Black History Month celebration by showcasing Black history and achievement through the students’ Living Wax projects.

Students in PreK-5th spent the month researching historical and modern Black leaders and created presentations to share the lives and legacy of their chosen figures. While the exact project varied by grade, a few young historians chose to be in costume and/or replicated the invention that their chosen figure innovated. Using a “science-fair” format, the FES community enjoyed moving from “wax” figure to figure to learn about the impact of Black lives on U.S. and world culture and history.
