Transforming Schools, Strengthening Communities
For three decades, the Baltimore Curriculum Project (BCP) has worked to reimagine what public education can be in Baltimore. Founded in 1996 to bring research-based teaching into city classrooms, BCP became one of Maryland’s first charter operators in 2005 and today is the city’s largest, proudly operating six neighborhood charter schools.
Together, we serve more than 3,000 children in grades Pre-K–8 across Baltimore. Each school reflects its community while sharing BCP’s commitment to excellent instruction, joyful learning, and strong support for every child.
A Neighborhood Conversion Charter School
A neighborhood conversion charter school is a public school that becomes a charter school but still serves the same local community. That means children who live in the neighborhood are always guaranteed a spot—just like at a traditional public school.
The difference is that the school now has more flexibility and extra support to give students the best possible education. With BCP as the charter operator, these schools benefit from our proven educational model, which includes: Direct Instruction, Restorative Practices, Community School Model, and Educator Support. Together, these elements help students thrive academically, teachers grow professionally, and the school remain a strong, vibrant part of the community.
At BCP, we are committed to Baltimore, powered by purpose, and focused on the future—because every child deserves an excellent education and every community deserves a strong school at its heart.
