The young female runners at four of the Baltimore Curriculum Project network community charter schools – City Springs Elementary / Middle, Govans Elementary, Hampstead Hill Academy, and Pimlico Elementary/Middle – showed their mettle at the Girls On The Run (GOTR) 5K on Sunday, December 3, 2023.

At the Fall 2023 Season Celebratory 5K at a new venue, the University of Maryland Baltimore County, the tenacity and talent of the running clubs at the four BCP schools were on full display. The girls ran in the rain and against other GOTR running clubs across the Chesapeake region. BCP faculty and families were on hand to cheer the runners across the finish line.

Girls on the Run provides such an amazing opportunity for young ladies to develop self-esteem skills along with the skills to start establishing healthy peer relationships. The coaches and I started noticing changes in how they spoke to each other, how they advocated for other students, and how overall they thought of themselves.  It was an amazing change to see in the weeks leading up to the race!

Kelly Makimaa, GOTR Executive Director, adds, “We’re so proud of the Girls on the Run of the Greater Chesapeake participants and truly grateful to the coaches and schools that hosted our positive programming this season. Together, we’re inspiring girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident which will have a lifelong impact.”

Well done, BCP GOTR members! We’re looking forward to a great spring season.
